The municipal boundaries define the limits of the Region's nine area municipalities: Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Whitchurch-Stouffville and Vaughan. In 2007 an extensive investigation and clean-up of the municipal boundary locations was completed which included: snapping the boundaries to the road centrelines (which were spatially adjusted to the orthophotography in 2005); recalculating the boundary along Highway 404 to follow the 150 feet west of the centre line of the highway as outlined in the 1970 Regional Municipality of York Act; spatially adjusting the boundary along the Holland River to coincide with the centre of the river as illustrated in the 2005 orthophotography; spatially adjusting the boundary along Lake Simcoe according to the recent corrections completed by the Lake Simcoe Regional Conservation Authority according to the 2002 orthophotography; and several areas often questioned by users of the municipal boundary data were clarified in cooperation with the local municipalities. For the York Region Official Plan – 2010, Office Consolidation Fall 2018.

Description: Shows the creation of a Greenbelt Plan to protect about 1.8 million acres of environmentally sensitive and agricultural land in the Golden Horseshoe from urban development and sprawl. It includes and builds on about 800,000 acres of land within the Niagara Escarpment Plan and the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. Settlement areas within the Greenbelt support and provide significant economic, social and commercial functions to prime agricultural areas and rural areas. They are an integral part of the long-term economic and social sustainability of the Greenbelt and this Plan envisions that they continue to evolve and grow in keeping with their rural and/or existing character.

Description: The 2013 Employment Areas display areas identified as Employment Areas in local official plans as of mid-year 2013. The definition of Employment Lands is from the Provincial Policy Statement, 2005 "areas designated in an official plan for clusters of business and economic activities including, but not limited to, manufacturing, warehousing, offices, and associated retail and ancillary facilities." http://www.mah.gov.on.ca/Asset1421.aspxIt is notable that isolated (i.e. not clustered) lands outside of employment areas may be designated for similar uses but are not captured in this inventory. The 2013 Employment Areas were generated by critically reviewing and updating the outer boundaries of the 2012 Employment Areas based on planning application approvals and consultation with local municipal staff when required. Employment Areas are updated on an annual basis.
